For a correct maintenance of stainless steel in pools or aquatic spaces, ACCESS specialists recommend:

- During the assembly of pool lifts - or other components - these must be handled correctly. Avoid bumps and scratches that damage the passivation layer of the steel itself and create incisions sensitive to pitting corrosion.

- Once the stainless steel elements are installed in the pool, they should be used exclusively for their intended purpose. It is always advised that pool water maintenance chemicals be added to the water as far away as possible from the stainless steel parts.

- Perform visual inspections of the surface of the lifts, to detect the possible appearance of signs of oxidation by external agents that have not been considered.

- In enclosed spaces, proper daily recirculation of air must be ensured to control the formation of ambient condensation.

The lifts or pool hoists ACCESS, are manufactured with stainless steel AISI-316, which supports the variations of different types of water, as long as the optimal conditions are met regarding the concentration of chemicals for disinfection, especially residual chlorine (chloramines).

8 tips for cleaning stainless steel on pool lifts:

Stainless steels are corrosion-resistant materials that do not require any additional protection to improve their appearance and durability, but they do require regular cleaning so that neither the aesthetic appearance nor their corrosion resistance is compromised.

1. Rinse daily the entire steel surface of the lift with pressurized fresh water to avoid encrustation of residues on the steel surface.

2. Recurrent cleaning to remove residues (scale, chlorides, ...) and other harmful substances that may be adhered to the stainless steel and cause pitting corrosion. It is recommended to wipe the entire surface of the lift with a damp cloth (without using any chemical product).

  • The frequency of cleaning will vary depending on the environmental and atmospheric conditions to which the product is subjected.
  • In indoor pools it is very important to perform a more frequent cleaning due to the severe environmental conditions due to a higher concentration of corrosive vapors of chemical products.

3. It is recommended to use the protective cream supplied as a sample or with stripping pastes based on phosphoric or nitric acid.
With a brush or nylon brushes (never with iron pins) distribute the steel protective cream over the entire surface and leave it to act for about 3 hours.
After cleaning always rinse with plenty of clean water.

> In case of observing deposits or rust stains; clean with the cream supplied or with a 10-15% diluted nitric solution, or with non-abrasive metal cleaner. Rinse with fresh water and dry thoroughly with a cotton cloth.

> Although fresh water with soap is sufficient to disinfect the steel, if bleaches are used, it is necessary to rinse with plenty of water.

It is also recommended to perform at least one technical shutdown per year for preventive maintenance of all steel, corrective maintenance of accessories and operation of the equipment and the installation in general.

Other warnings for the conservation of the steel of the pool lift

If the stainless steel of the lifts is not cleaned periodically, remains of water with chemical residue can remain on the surface, causing corrosion of the material; as well as, in the access stairs, special care must be taken with the areas of the drill holes, since they can store remains of dirt between the rungs and the handrails (in the anchor bolts) causing corrosion of the material.

It is also important to have a good water recirculation in the staircase area, because an insufficient water recirculation causes the adherence of dirt in the areas mentioned above.
